Marilyn Monroe
The marriage had lasted nine months. The official reason for the breakup was listed as 'incompatibility'. Joe DiMaggio had wanted Marilyn Monroe to give up her career and be solely his wife. She couldn't do it. He, according to Marilyn, "didn't talk to me. He was cold. He was indifferent to me as a human being and an artist. He didn't want me to have friends of my own. He didn't want me to do my work. He watched television instead of talking to me."
Later, she added, "Joe distrusted everybody in Hollywood except his buddy Frank Sinatra. We just lived in two different worlds. He spent all day in front of the TV set watching some game or another. He went for days wtihout even speaking to me. He's the moodiest man I ever met."

Love me as you would love yourself, as a human being who needs care and attention and support and interest. But never don't love me for my beauty. One does not cancel out the other! I do not love you in that way. And we know why. Other than my greatness of soul, which is what I have worked so hard on to become, it is because a woman is not conditioned to kill the man she loves. You and they have killed me because you neglect my humanness and heart, while objectifying me under the name of worship. That is not love. It is the loneliest existence in the world. And actually, complete dehumanisation. The Lolita man dehumanises. The apparent care is just apparent. I am to be loved for who I am, not what I look like. And then, I am to be loved for what I look like, who I am, and what I do.
